Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the adoption of online distance learning, bringing challenges such as learner isolation and decreased engagement. This paper explores strategies to address these issues through the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools. It reviews existing studies on learner isolation and proposes the integration of social networking services (SNS) and video annotation tools to create simulated synchronous experiences (SSE) and social interactions (SSI). Additionally, the paper discusses the role of large language model (LLM)-based Al chatbots in providing personalized feedback and enhancing learner motivation. The proposed study will utilize the PlatJam platform, aiming to reduce transactional distance and foster a collaborative online learning environment.
