The web-based discussion forums used in the Bernese medical curriculum serve as a means of communication between faculty and students and are well frequented for questions and answers relating to mass events. Using this example, our article takes a look at the critical success factors in implementing e-learning in university curricula and discusses the advantages and disadvantages of a uniform and binding e-learning culture. We address the questions of what influence the discussion forums have on the mass events, and what influences are important in the establishment and maintenance of an e-learning culture. We discuss the online votes from faculty and students on use and significance of the discussion forums.
