Abstract

The importance and effectiveness of stepwise learning in programming education has long been advocated. However, there has been little concrete discussion of what kind of stepwise learning should be conducted. This research thus examines the properties of knowledge and comprehension processes in learning programming. Previous studies have also proposed “learning to read stepwise” and “learning to construct stepwise,” and integrating these concepts is worthwhile. We thus propose their combination, “learning to understand stepwise.” Although it was possible to show its usefulness in individual works, we could not investigate the effectiveness of the process as a whole.
