Abstract

The paper aims at understanding to what extent the learners could engage in online collaborative discussion and generate sustained, productive knowledge building discourse in ubiquitous learning environment in a social context. Online discourse data in an inquiry case and a survey responses were analyzed to examine learners’ effort for idea improvement and attitudes towards online building community respectively. The findings indicate that in ubiquitous learning environment discussions are strengthened by social networks and the collaborative learning community can be built on the social interactions and collective knowledge advancement by generating productive knowledge building discourse.
