Abstract

Education is an important area for data analytics; recent buzz words are Learning Analytics and Educational Data Mining. This paper present the work accomplished in the context of the Lea's Box project. Two main work strands are presented; first a technical solution for an educational data mining and learning analytics data warehousing concept that completely rests on open source software will be presented, together with its future development plans to make it accessible as a service for various data input points via xAPI. After a reflection on the obstacles faced by research that collects data from real-live educational environments, together with lessons learned by the project and possible solutions for future projects, temporal analyses of single tasks carried out by students in US middle school are presented.
